The hang glider
One of the first flying machines, a hang glider, was developed at the beginning of the 19th century by Albrecht Ludwig Berblinger, also known as "the tailor of Ulm". Unfortunately, in the summer of 1811, there was a not very successful demonstration in the presence of King Frederick I.
The mobile fire ladder
Conrad Dietrich Magirus invented the mobile fire ladder in Ulm in the mid-19th century. In 1866, he founded his own company to manufacture ladders and fire engines. Today, the company Magirus GmbH produces firefighting technology in Ulm.

Using radically reduced pictograms, Aicher's team designed a new sign language that was universally understood.
